Monthly Movie Report

So, as with last month, here is the latest in Hollywood’s potential remake/sequel deals. Remember, there is no idea out there that isn’t worth remaking!

  • Highlander – Believe it or not, they are going to make an animated version. But ‘there can be only one!’
  • Hawaill Five-O – Yes, no TV series escapes the movie machine either!
  • Ikiru – Yes, I know The Magnificent Seven was a good remake of The Seven Samurai, but really, why remake Kurosawa? And with Tom Hanks??
  • Sabrina, the Teenage Witch – No comment.
  • Revenge of the Nerds – But will Anthony Edwards be in it?
  • Alvin and the Chipmunks – Worse, it is live action and animation.
  • Mission Impossible 3 – This was already in the works, at least J.J. Abrams will write and direct. It might actually be good.
  • Terminator 4 – No word on whether Arnold will be in it, but can’t you just see him saying, “Hasta la vista, I have a budget meeting, baby.”
  • Pet Sematary – Hey, zombies are in, maybe dead animals will be cool too?
  • Hairspray – The movie that became a musical that will become a movie. My head hurts.

Definitely not going to Mt. St. Helens

They say it won’t be a major eruption. Still, increased lava flow is not a sign of dormancy, me thinks.

I won’t be visiting here anytime soon.

If the current activity strengthens, Mt. St. Helens could blow its top

"Many women exaggerate their stories"

You expect that kind of lame argument from, say, Kobe Bryant’s defense team, but no, now we get it from the Sudanese government regarding women raped in Darfur. Needless to say, the U.N. thinks “there is a serious gap or disconnect between the perception of the reality on the ground by the government and the perception of that reality by everybody else.” This may become a nominee for “Understatement of the Year”.

Newsflash! Boys different than girls!!

Just in case you didn’t get that lesson in your junior high health class. The Journal of the American Medical Association makes it official: boys and girls are different.

Why do we spend millions of dollars to learn the obvious?

Hurricane Jeanne

I’ve always hated the name Jeanne. Now I’m at work, at 2 A.M. covering for our Orlando crew as they try to brave through yet another hurricane. At least my sleep deprivation counts for something.

The Job Hunt

My sister left her job last week. Mutual decision. So, she’s back to polishing the resume and working her network of contacts to find a new position.

She’s a pretty strong gal, so it always takes me by surprise when she shows any vulnerability or weakness. Still, the tears over this stressful life change were short-lived and she is back in action.

Makes me proud. Reminds me that my parents did well raising us. I thank them a thousand times over for being such wonderful parents. They don’t read my blog, but I don’t really need them to see that. They know we appreciate them every day.

Give someone you love a hug today. Remind them that they are precious. When the world is chaotic as it so often is, it is good to remember the ones close to us that keep the chaos at bay.

Frances

I’ve always hated the name Frances. Hurricane Frances is headed right for Central Florida and it is now threatening my weekend plans. Though I live and work in SoCal, my company has a primary site in Orlando, which we had to do disaster recovery for when Charley rolled through. If Frances stays on course, we’ll have to repeat our performance, supporting Orlando again through the storm. Of course, it is a holiday weekend and I have plans to be in Las Vegas until Saturday evening. I could end up working the graveyard shift again as soon as I get home.

Frances. Pfft.
